Claude Opus 5

Opus 5 is the workhorse of Anthropic’s Claude 5 generation: a clear step up from Opus 4.8 in reasoning, coding, and long-running agent work, at the same price. It holds long context comfortably and stays sharp across extended sessions.

It costs half of Fable 5 on both input and output, and Opus 5.5, newer, costs a fifth less than Opus 5. Unless the task genuinely rewards Fable-level depth, Opus is the better trade for day-to-day brain work.

Best for: everyday agent work, coding, research, and anything that was previously reaching for Opus 4.8.
