Why They Leave

Writes one full story for every customer who stopped paying and names the one main reason they left.

One of the seven in Churn Optimization. They share one churn file. The only emails are the short notes, and none goes out until you turn on auto-send.

The real reason, not the polite one

Stripe tells you who left. The cancel form gets “too expensive” from half of them. The real reason is in the calls, the email threads and what they did week by week, and nobody has time to read all of it for every customer. This does: one story per customer who stopped paying, with the evidence kept underneath, and one main reason from a fixed list, so the reasons can be counted.

What it does

  • Finds every customer who stopped paying, from Stripe.
  • Reads what they wanted from your calls, what they told you in email and the cancel form, and what they did in your product, week by week.
  • Writes one story per customer: a timeline, a table of their weeks, what they told you in your own words, the moments that stand out, and the one main reason.
  • Counts the reasons and the monthly money behind each.

The reveal

Twenty-one of the fifty-five customers who left got stuck setting it up. Most of them picked “too expensive” on the cancel form. The fix was not a discount.

Configuration

  • Where customers pay: Stripe.
  • Where they talk to you: the mailboxes they write to, and a calls tool if you record calls.
  • What they did: whatever holds your product’s usage, if you have it connected.
  • How often: when you ask, or every morning, if an available scheduler can run the work and you approve it.

What it doesn’t do

  • It doesn’t write to customers. Win-Back Drafts does that.
  • It doesn’t quote customers or name anyone else in a story.
  • It doesn’t guess usage it cannot read; the story says usage was not connected.

Triggers

Runs when you ask (“why did people leave”, “why did Acme leave”). A daily batch needs a verified scheduler and your approval; otherwise it writes one bounded batch now and saves where it got to.
